Technology is destroying our in-person relationships.
Technology is destroying the here and now.
Picture the last time you were waiting for something… you are at the car wash, mechanic, something.
I’ll bet the first thing you did was whip out your phone and play a game, check email, text someone, post something to social media.
In the meantime, life was passing you by.
You missed the pop of the tires on the truck as it went by. The birds chirping, children screaming, the music in your neighbors’ garage as it gets drowned out when he fires up his table saw.
My point,
Life is a popularity contest, when I choose to spend time with you, you win my popularity contest. I have chosen to be in the here and now with YOU. Yet so many people will sit with me and check their phones, answer emails, check texts, check social media. You don’t care about the here and now. You are more concerned with the there and now. And when you get together with them, you do the same thing and now are paying attention to other people.
How did we lose the connection with the people who are in the room with us. We are so focused on those that are not in the room with us.
My promise to you… to be present. To listen to you, to the birds, to the music in the background. To make the most of our time TOGETHER not from afar. Someday will be the last time we ever speak. I want to say I made the most of our time together. I hope you will too.
